Hi there, Trenders! It’s probably no secret that I love me some cartoons. So to celebrate the holidays, I’ve put together a list of my favorite animated holiday specials. Feel free to get all cozy and warm, and binge these 3 fantastic holiday episodes! Enjoy!
Arnold’s Christmas
In my last post, I wrote about the holiday special that Nickelodeon’s classic animated show Hey Arnold! put together for Thanksgiving. And to continue on that note, I think that I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention their heartwarming Christmas episode. This time around, Arnold partakes in a Secret Santa exchange with the rest of his boarding house. After drawing Hyunh, Arnold decides to give him a christmas miracle: and that’s to reunite Mr. Hyunh with his long-lost daughter. This one is a bit of a tear-jerker, but overall it’s such a touching story that it’ll get you believing in the good in others and put you in the giving mood!
Seven Days of Kwaanza
December has lots of Christmas joy, but it’s also the time to celebrate other cultural holidays! In Disney’s The Proud Family, Penny and her father Oscar come across a homeless family while shopping for christmas presents at the mall. After Penny invites the homeless family over to their home for the holidays, they learn that their new guests don’t celebrate Christmas, but Kwanzaa. Much to Oscar’s dismay, Kwanzaa lasts seven days and the Proud family gets a full week’s dose of the cultural experience. The rest of the Proud family grow fond of the holiday’s lessons and values, and eventually Oscar too learns the true meaning of the holidays. It’s not all about the materialistic presents and exchanges, but it’s also about being grateful for what we currently have.
And we can’t forget about a Hanukkah episode for the holidays! (Or, “Chanukah”, as the show puts it). Nickelodeon’s Rugrats ran this holiday special in their 4th season. Tommy Pickles, and the rest of his crew attend his Grandfather’s play that talks about the historical significance of Chanukah to the Jewish people. Of course, the babies interpret the story as only they can; with fun visual imagination and adorable baby puns. If you’re looking for a fun-filled baby adventure with some clever wordplay and situational humor, this episode of Rugrats is definitely up your alley, and it’ll also give you a brief lesson on Chanukah.
