How to Create Your Perfect Morning Routine and Stick to It

Having a morning routine is one of the simplest ways to reduce mental clutter, create stability and structure, and set yourself up for a day of success. During our busy seasons it can be difficult to stick to good habits and practice consistency, especially during those early mornings! Follow our simple and quick guide to help you create your perfect morning routine, and start your day off as your best you.

Make it doable

As you create your morning routine, remember to make it doable for yourself and your available time. If you have 30 minutes each morning that you can set aside for yourself, commit to a routine that takes 30 minutes or less. This will reduce time related stress and will help keep your morning routine peaceful and enjoyable.

Do something every morning that brings you happiness and fulfillment

Starting your day off with an act that brings you fulfillment is one of the best ways to set yourself up for a successful day. If you love reading, maybe read one chapter of a book every morning. If cooking is one of your favorite activities, make yourself a homemade breakfast. Whatever it is that brings you fulfillment, find a way to make that a part of your morning routine.

Stick to it

A routine is only beneficial if we actually do it. Creating accountability is a great way to make sticking to a routine easier. Ask a friend to create a morning routine with you and be accountable to each other for sticking to it on a consistent basis. For self-accountability, create an alarm on your phone for each of your morning activities as a self-reminder of what you have committed to.

Give yourself grace

Let’s be real. Some mornings we just will not be able to stick to our routine, and that’s ok. Giving ourselves grace in these situations is just as important as having a routine. Life is unpredictable, and there will always be days and times where we need to shift from our regular routine to practice a different form of self-care. When these times happen, take a moment to consciously let yourself know that you need something else right now, and that’s ok. Don’t let your routine get in the way of your body, mind, and spirit awareness.
