5 Tips to Stay Hydrated During the Summer Heat

Summer has arrived with its early sunrises and warm sunny days! Staying hydrated is a top priority for a healthy body and mind and even more important during the hot summer months. But drinking 60oz of water every day can sometimes be easier said than done. We have compiled five tips that are proven to help you drink more water so you can stay hydrated and energized this summer.

1. get a water bottle you love

Having a water bottle you actually like to use and carry around can make a big difference in water intake levels. Purchasing a water bottle that represents your style and gives you features that make your life easier will not only make you happy but it can help motivate you to refill your water bottle. And remember, the size of your water bottle matters. Using a water bottle that is at least 20oz means you will need to fill your water bottle less often to achieve your water in-take goal. Using a 32oz water bottle is the easiest way to insure good water intake since you only have to fill it twice to reach the 60oz mark.

2. set a reminder

Setting a reminder on your phone to drink water is an easy way to start developing good water drinking habits. With a reminder you can set it and forget it, only having to think about drinking water or filling your water bottle when the alarm goes off. If you do this consistently, thinking about drinking water will become a habit and part of your lifestyle. Try setting a recurring reminder to go off three times per day, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This will ensure you at least get three glasses of water per day, and if your glasses are 16oz or more, that’s over 45oz of water.

3. drink water with other beverages

If you are used to drinking a soft drink, juice, or an alcoholic beverage during the day, add a glass of water to the experience. If you like drinking juice in the morning, drink a glass of juice and a glass of water. If you like wine with dinner, have your wine and a glass of water. This will help you identifity the times of day that you can choose water more often. And if you are hardcore committed to becoming a more hydrated individual, switch out your soft drink, juice, or alcoholic beverage for water instead of just adding it.

4. drink a glass of water when you wake up

Drinking a glass of water right when you wake up in the morning offers many benefits besides hydration. Drinking a glass of water in the morning helps your body begin waking up for the day, sets your digestive system up for success, and helps you get some liquid in your stomach before you add in coffee and food. This is also a simple and easy way to drink at least one more cup of water per day.

5. drink water that tastes good to you

If you don’t like the taste of tap water, find another type of water that is more appealing to you. Everyone has different flavor preferences and that applies to water as well. We are very fortunate to have access to many types of water and water filtration systems, so find a water filter that makes your water taste fresh, or a brand of water that you enjoy drinking. If the flavor of water is what is keeping you from staying hydrated, find the water that works for you and stick with it.
