Our Top 5 Movies To Watch this Summer

It’s summer, which hopefully means that you have some free time on your hands! Some of you might be out of school and others may be taking a bit of a vacation from work. Either way, this time of the year is a great time to catch some new films coming out to theaters! Here are my top five movies to look forward to this summer (not including the ones that are already out, of course!).
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. - IMDB.com

The sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the triumphant return for the Jurassic Park franchise to the big screen! After Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire’s (Bryce Dallace-Howard) attempt to save the dinosaurs from the chaotic island of Isla Nubar, big businesses want to earn a profit by selling off the surviving creatures. It seems that the people of this film haven’t learned anything from the other 5 movies in this franchise, huh? Be on the look out for how our band of protagonists try to prevent this terrible scheme, and watch out for the new terrifying beast that the scientists have genetically modified for this heart-racing thriller. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom come out June 22nd. Watch the trailer here.

Scott Lang is grappling with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again don the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy. - IMDB.com

Have you all had the chance to watch Avengers: Infinity War yet? (And if so, have you checked out our article on the film’s theme of sacrifice?)

If you have, then you might have wondered where Ant-Man was during the crisis on Earth during Thanos’s quest for the Infinity Stones. Well, this film might have the answers! Ant-Man and The Wasp takes place in between Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) last appearance on screen in Captain America: Civil War and May 2018’s Infinity War, so there will certainly be some gaps to fill in terms of the timeline and the sequence of events leading up to Thanos’s crusade on the universe. After all, this is the last MCU movie until March 2019’s Captain Marvel. This time around, Ant-Man teams up with Hope van Dyne, also known as The Wasp! (played by Evangeline Lily). Together, this duo’s adventure is sure to be packed with all kinds of action, regardless of their size! Ant-Man and The Wasp comes out July 6th. Watch the trailer here.

On the rocky path to sobriety after a life-changing accident, John Callahan discovers the healing power of art, willing his injured hands into drawing hilarious, often controversial cartoons, which bring him a new lease on life. - IMDB.com

If you want to a different vibe from all the “hoopla” of the blockbusters this year, this biopic should be a nice change of pace. Based off the real life of John Callahan, this drama sees Joaquin Phoenix take on the leading role of the late cartoon artist, detailing the struggles with his disability and alcoholism. This sounds like a film that has a bit of heart to it, and might be something that can inspire us to persevere and find the silver-lining in times of struggle! Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot comes out July 13th. Watch the trailer here.

A working-class family man, Christopher Robin, encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life. - IMDB.com

Maybe you’re looking for a film that the whole family can enjoy? Look no further! Christopher Robin stars Ewan Mcgregor as a grown-up version of the Disney character from the Winnie-the-Pooh series. Christopher Robin is now an adult and focuses the majority of his time on his job and work. This time, Pooh and his friends (like Piglett, Tigger, and co.) will travel to Christopher and his family to bring back some fun and joy to adulthood. This is a film for audiences of all ages, both for nostalgic fans of the book and cartoon and for new kids who can discover Winnie-the-Pooh for the first time. Christopher Robin comes out August 3rd. Watch the trailer here.

Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse -- Nick's disapproving mother. - IMDB.com

Based off Kevin Kwan’s 2013 novel of the same name, this film stars Fresh off the Boat actress Constance Wu and first-time actor Henry Golding as our romantic couple. Now, I’m sure we might have seen this plotline before, where a new couple come at a crossroads when choosing between their relationship and their family. But what makes this movie different is the contemporary spin of the narrative, and how the story frames itself within the Asian-American experience. Crazy Rich Asians features a majority Asian cast, a positive step for diversity in film, all while telling a story that can be universal to anyone that watches it! Crazy Rich Asians comes out August 15th. Watch the trailer here.
