Expressions: showcasing women and men who express their inner self through their style.

Can you tell us your name and what you do, and something you love about what you do?

My name is Janice and I am the service/creative director at Discovery Church in Rohnert Park, California and also part of the wonderful team at Trendeing.com! There are a lot of things that I love about what I do, but I think the best is seeing people that are in my team exploring their talents, stepping out of their shells, and having fun in the process of becoming their best selves and discovering their callings.

What do you love about your style?

What I love about my style is the comfort and “coolness” of it, but more so the comfort haha. I love putting pieces together that some may not think to put together, but wearing it in a way that works. One of my best friends used to tell me, “Janice! Your clothes never match, but it works!!!! Why?!”

Why did you pick the outfit you are wearing in this photo shoot?

I picked this outfit because it expresses my favorite things about my style. The layering of different fabrics, comfort, mismatching color, with a mixture of classic and trendy.

How does this outfit represent you?

This outfit represents me in multiple ways. To me this outfit is a lot of juxtaposition. A moto leather jacket with clean cut, white sneakers. A long flowy, pretty kimono with ripped up jeans with writing on them. All of this worn with delicate, classy jewelry. If you know me personally, you’d know that I am social, outgoing, and just very friendly with new people and people in general. But I’m also very introverted, LOVE alone time, and only consider few people very close to me. Just like my outfits, these things shouldn’t go together, but it work…most of the time haha.

What is your favorite part of getting dressed in the morning?

I think my favorite part about getting dressed in the morning is the end to be honest. Sometimes what I plan to wear in my head works out in reality and sometimes it really really doesn’t. But either way, I know that what ever I have on is a visual representation of my season in life. How I feel about my style now may change as I have other life experiences. 20 years from now I could look at these same photos and think, “janice…no.” But I don’t care! It looks cool to me now! Older Janice will just have to deal with it.

What advice could you give to someone who wants to express themselves more through their fashion?

The advice I have for someone who is wanting to express themselves with their fashion is to try a little at a time. Just you knowing that you are adding something to your outfit that is expressive enough. It doesn’t have to be this complete makeover all at once. Once you start getting that positive feedback from your peers, which you will, you’ll want to change more things up and pretty soon your outfit is screaming, YOU!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Fashion and style can be a little daunting for some people. It was never meant to do that. Fashion and style, as far as I know, has always been about expression. Expression of era, beliefs, rebellion, submission, vocation, location, etc. If you are lucky enough, like me, to be able to have the freedom to express your inner self through the art of fashion, you would be doing yourself and the world a huge favor. Giving us the gift of you.
