Can you tell us your name and what you do, and something you love about what you do?
My name is Anh Dao and I am a fourth grade teacher. I’ve been a teacher for eight years now. What I love about my job is being able to interact with students, families, and being a part of building community every single day! I not only get to be a part of teaching, but I also get to be a learner alongside my students. They keep me in the present moment and give me opportunities to reflect on myself and the decisions I make everyday. It is not an easy job, but it is the BEST job!
What do you love about your style?
What I love about my style is I don’t follow any rules or particular trends. To me, fashion is a form of expression. Well, how I feel, my mood, and how I want to express myself can change day to day. Therefore, my style can change day to day. I may dress down in comfort wear one day, a little rock and roll and edgy another day, or totally professional for my job. I love putting outfits together as well. It’s where I am most creative. Some people love scrap booking, or baking… I love creating outfits that express something about myself.
Why did you pick the outfit you are wearing in this photo shoot?
This outfit expresses one aspect of my style. I love how fun and carefree it feels with the flowy dress and high top sneakers. One quote I often say to my friends when I agree with something is, “100!” So when I saw this jean jacket, I had to have it. In fact, I sent a picture of it to my girlfriends prior to buying it and they unanimously said, “You have to get it.” I love how the jacket adds a little edge and texture to an otherwise straight forward outfit with just the dress and sneakers.
How does this outfit represent you?
This outfit represents me because it’s fun, festive, a little edgy, and most importantly, comfortable. I love that the dress has a very feminine feel with the floral prints, but the jean jacket adds character. I intentionally wore the leather sneakers with gold hardware to balance out the feminine feel of the dress. I guess that’s one way I would describe myself. I can be very girlie and feminine at times, but strong and firm when I need to be, and with a fun twist!
What is your favorite part of getting dressed in the morning?
My favorite part of getting dressed in the morning is choosing one clothing item I love and then creating my whole day’s outfit around that item. The creative part is the most fun.
What advice could you give to someone who wants to express themselves more through their fashion?
I would say wear what makes you feel most like yourself! I know that’s very general advice, but it really is true. I think it can be fun to get inspired by fashion trends, but ultimately, it’s you who put together outfits for yourself. I know that when I feel most like my authentic self, I am more likely to conquer my day with a more positive attitude.
